West Coast Network Expansion Now Delivers Windstream Fiber Coast-to-Coast

Windstream Wholesale’s West Coast Network Expansion adds new fiber routes and bridges major markets coast-to-coast, transforming Windstream into a nationwide, end-to-end high bandwidth transport provider.

West Coast Expansion Highlights

Windstream’s West Coast project uses Infinera’s DTN-X platform and extends our long-haul express fiber network coast-to-coast.  The expansion allows Windstream customers to reach the most vibrant technology and start-up companies in the United States.  By adding over 4,800 additional route miles, the West Coast expansion give customers access to over 1,200 10G Points of Presence (PoPs) i over 800 U.S. cities and provides more than 400 100G PoPs in multiple U.S. premiere carrier hotels and data centers.

West Coast Expansion Phase Details

  • Completed in 2016
  • Added four-major markets to Windstream’s 100G long-haul network
    • Salt Lake City, Utah
    • Reno, Nevada
    • Las Vegas, Nevada
    • Silicon Valley / San Francisco Bay Area

Windstream West Coast Expansion Phase 1

  • Expected Completion Date: August 2017
  • Adds one additional major market to Windstream’s 100G long-haul network
    • Extending from Silicon Valley / San Francisco Bay area to Los Angeles, California
    • PoP located at 530 W. 6th Street, Los Angeles
    • Interconnectivity to One Wilshire building.

  • Expected Completion Date: 2018
  • Adds two additional major markets to Windstream’s 100G long-haul network
    • Extending from Los Angeles, California to Dallas, TX
    • Phoenix, Arizona
    • El Paso, Texas
